CapCut is the editor most Shorts, TikTok, and Reels creators already have open when a clip needs a cut, a caption, or a template. It is a product, not a model. ByteDance ships it as a timeline you can drive on the web and in mobile apps, and the paid tiers now meter generative video through Seedance rather than through a separate generation studio you have to export into.
This page is a selection note for people who publish vertical video. It is not a manual, and it does not guess at limits that the pricing page did not print.
Who it's for
CapCut fits creators who already film, download, or generate footage and then need a fast finish. A YouTube creator turning a talking-head recording into Shorts, a TikTok editor who lives in auto-captions and stickers, and a small brand team that wants the same project available to more than one seat are the core audience. It is also the practical home for people who want Seedance clips inside an editor they already know, instead of learning a separate generation app and then re-importing the file.
It is a weaker fit if the job is a finished talking-head ad with a cast of stock avatars, which is closer to HeyGen or Creatify. It is a weaker fit if the job is a narrated voice with a cloned speaker and no picture edit, which is ElevenLabs. It is a weaker fit if you want a generation-first canvas that swaps Kling, Veo, and Seedance in one prompt box; that is closer to Higgsfield or Runway. Use CapCut when the timeline, the captions, and the export are the product, and generation is one effect on that timeline.
Teams that hand the same draft between a strategist and an editor should look at the Teams row rather than a stack of personal Pro seats. Solo posters who only need occasional AI b-roll can often stay on a lower paid tier and spend credits on Seedance 2.0 Mini instead of jumping to Ultra. The decision is about export discipline and credit burn, not about which logo looks more "AI."
What it does
CapCut is a multi-track editor aimed at short social video. Creators use it to trim, reframe to vertical, drop templates, add stickers and text, and burn in captions before posting to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or Instagram. The public pricing page, checked on 2026-10-16, sells the paid product as access to AI features, premium templates, premium Pro features, and 1 TB of space storage, with extra monthly AI credits on Pro and Ultra.
The same page is explicit about generative length on Seedance 2.0 Mini. Pro is described as generating up to 240 seconds at 720p or 600 seconds at 480p with Seedance 2.0 Mini. Ultra is described as generating up to 1,700 seconds at 720p or 4,300 seconds at 480p with the same model. Those figures are ceilings tied to the credit grant, not a promise that every prompt will come back at that length. A help article on the same domain, also visible in this check, separates credits from the subscription: credits pay for advanced AI use such as image generation, script-to-video, and premium text-to-speech, and they cannot be spent to buy the Pro plan itself.
What this directory did not observe on the pricing extract is a full free-tier limit table. CapCut is widely used without a paid plan for basic editing, but the page opened here led with Pro, Ultra, and Teams. Free export resolution, watermark rules, and caption quotas are therefore not observed on 2026-10-16. Do not treat a remembered free plan from an older review as the current allowance.
Pricing tiers
Verified on 2026-10-16 against capcut.com/pricing. The subscription sticker is region-rendered, so this page does not pick one currency as the global list price.
One rendering of that URL showed Pro at USD 19.99 per month, Ultra at USD 79 per month, and Teams at USD 12.49 per month per seat. A direct open of the same URL in this environment showed Pro at CLP 29990 per month, Ultra at CLP 71990 per month, and Teams at CLP 14995 per month per seat. Credit grants and the Seedance per-second lines matched across both renderings. Quote the sticker only with the currency you see at checkout.
Shared figures from both checks:
| Plan | What the page stated | Seedance lines (first month) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | 1,200 monthly AI credits; up to 240s at 720p or 600s at 480p on Seedance 2.0 Mini; premium templates; Pro features; 1 TB storage | Seedance 2.5 from $0.12/sec; Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p from $0.007/sec |
| Ultra | 8,645 monthly AI credits; up to 1,700s at 720p or 4,300s at 480p on Seedance 2.0 Mini; everything in Pro plus exclusive AI features; 1 TB | Seedance 2.5 from $0.18/sec; Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p from $0.009/sec |
| Teams | 1,200 monthly AI credits per seat; Pro features for seats; brand kit; 1 TB; page said renews automatically | Seedance 2.5 from $0.12/sec per seat; Seedance 2.0 Mini at 480p from $0.007/sec per seat |
The Teams card also said a signed-in visitor could save up to 80 percent. That discount was not itemized, so the saved amount is not observed. The per-second Seedance rates are labeled first-month rates. The renewal rate after month one was not observed on this page. Credits can be bought on top of the plan. They do not pay the subscription.
If you need Seedance as a standalone creator app with its own plan ladder, read Seedance, which points at Dreamina rather than at the CapCut editor.
Pros
- The timeline, captions, templates, and vertical export live in one editor, so a long-to-short cut does not have to leave the tool for a final grade of text and framing.
- Paid plans name Seedance 2.0 Mini and Seedance 2.5 in the price card, with concrete credit grants (1,200 on Pro, 8,645 on Ultra) instead of a vague "AI included" line.
- Teams is priced per seat and includes a brand kit, which matches a small channel that shares one space instead of swapping login passwords.
- Storage is stated as 1 TB on Pro, Ultra, and Teams, which matters once drafts, captions, and generated clips pile up in the same cloud space.
- The help center draws a hard line between credits and the subscription, so you can plan AI spend separately from the editor unlock.
Cons
- The public sticker price changes with region. A USD figure and a CLP figure were both live on the same path on the same day, so a directory cannot print one "real" monthly price without lying.
- First-month Seedance rates are promotional language. The price after the first month was not on the card.
- A public creator API was not observed, so a channel that wants to generate Seedance clips from its own app cannot treat CapCut as the integration point.
- No official MCP server URL was observed. Marketing pages that use the words "CapCut MCP" did not publish an endpoint a client can add.
- Free-tier limits were not on the pricing extract. Anyone budgeting a zero-dollar workflow has to open the app and read the current gate.
Usage flow
- Start in the CapCut editor with the long cut, the screen recording, or the stills you already have, and cut to a vertical frame before you generate anything new.
- Add captions and a template, then spend AI credits only on the shots you cannot film, using Seedance 2.0 Mini when the card's lower per-second rate is enough.
- Export for the destination platform and, if the voice still sounds wrong, replace the track in ElevenLabs rather than regenerating the whole timeline.
Workflow usage
On the long-to-short workflow (long-to-short), CapCut is the finishing bench. A creator pulls a YouTube episode or a livestream, marks the hook, reframes to 9:16, and burns captions in the same project. Generation is optional. The Seedance allowance on Pro is there when a gap in the source needs a cutaway, not when the whole short should be synthetic.
On captions-and-cover (captions-cover), CapCut is the default caption pass for TikTok and Shorts because the text lives on the timeline with the edit. Cover frames and thumbnail stills can be grabbed from the same project. This directory did not observe a separate cover-design spec on the pricing page, so treat covers as an editor task, not as a guaranteed AI feature.
On a faceless workflow (faceless), CapCut is the assembly step after a model has made b-roll. Generate the shots in Kling, Runway, or Dreamina Seedance, then cut, caption, and pace them here. CapCut's own Seedance credits can replace that hop when the volume fits inside 1,200 or 8,645 monthly credits.
Underlying models
The pricing page names Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.0 Mini as the generative models attached to paid credits. Seedance is a ByteDance model family. CapCut is one creator-facing place to run it, next to Dreamina. Other models that may appear inside the CapCut product, including any image or speech models behind "AI features," were not observed as a named list on the pricing page checked on 2026-10-16. Do not assume Kling, Veo, or a particular speech model is included just because a template looks generative.
API and MCP
A public CapCut HTTP API, with a base URL and an auth scheme, was not observed on 2026-10-16. has_api is false for that reason. Pages on capcut.com that rank for "CapCut MCP server" read as editor landing pages. They did not publish a remote MCP URL. An official CapCut × Codex workflow exists as a connected editing path, and that is not the same thing as a documented Model Context Protocol server. Until an endpoint is printed on a developer page, MCP status stays not observed.
If the pipeline needs an API, leave CapCut as the human editor and call a vendor that documents one: Runway, Kling, HeyGen, or Higgsfield.
Similar tools
- Runway is the closer match when the job is generative shots plus a creative suite, with a documented API and an official MCP server. It is a worse everyday caption editor.
- Kling is the closer match when you want Kuaishou's own video model and a prepaid API unit price. It does not replace a TikTok timeline.
- Higgsfield aggregates many video models, including Seedance and Kling, behind one credit plan. Use it to test models. Use CapCut to finish the post.
- HeyGen replaces the camera for avatar speech. CapCut still helps if that avatar file needs captions and a platform cut.
FAQ
Is CapCut the same product as Seedance?
No. CapCut is the editor. Seedance is a ByteDance video model family that paid CapCut plans expose as a credit spend. Dreamina is the other creator app that leads with Seedance. Read Seedance before you compare per-second rates, because Dreamina's plan card and CapCut's plan card are not the same ladder.
Can I rely on the USD 19.99 Pro price?
Only as one regional rendering observed on 2026-10-16. The same URL also rendered in CLP during this check. Checkout is the price. The credit grant of 1,200 monthly AI credits on Pro was stable across both renderings, and that grant is the more useful planning number.
Does CapCut have an API or an official MCP server?
Not observed on 2026-10-16. There is no documented public API URL to put in this entry, and no official MCP endpoint was printed on the pages checked. Agent workflows should call a tool that publishes one.
Do unused AI credits buy the Pro plan?
No. CapCut's own help text says credits cannot be applied to Pro, Teams, or storage upgrades, and they are not cash. They meter AI features. The subscription is billed in real currency.
